CORONAVIRUS UPDATE IN NIGERIA

Six new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Osun State, Nigeria.
As at 11:00 am 3rd April there are 190 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Twenty have been discharged with two deaths

Ten new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 7 in Lagos and 3 in the FCT.
As at 08:00 pm 2nd April there are 184 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Twenty have been discharged with two deaths

CALABAR SPAR MALL COLLAPSES


Calabar biggest shopping mall has collapsed.

Part of the building collapsed today leaving some of the shoppers trapped inside and destroying several cars. The reason for the collapse as not been confirmed. Stay tuned for updates.

COVID-19: No mask, no movement in Cross River – Ayade

The Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has imposed new restrictions on residents of the state just as its neighbour, Akwa Ibom State, recorded its first set of cases.
According to a statement signed by Ayade’s media aide, Christian Ita, no resident of the state would be allowed to move without a face mask starting Friday, April 3.

BREAKING: Gov Seyi Makinde Tests Positive For COVID-19

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has tested positive for coronavirus and is in self-isolation. 

The governor revealed this in a statement on his verified Twitter handle on Monday where he disclosed that he is asymptomatic.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result,” he tweeted. “It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate."

BUHARI ORDERS TOTAL LOCKDOWN OF LAGOS, OGUN AND ABUJA.

President Muhammadu Buhari has imposed a curfew restricting movements in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja.

The President disclosed in his address to the nation on Sunday, March 29.

Addressing Nigerians, the President said, “based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States.”

Nigeria not prepared for coronavirus, Senate warns

Despite assurances from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Senate yesterday rejected the preventive measures being taken against the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19) by the agency, describing them as poor.

Lagos records first case of Coronavirus in Nigeria

The Ministry of Health in Lagos State has confirmed its first case of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), incidentally the first in Nigeria and in West Africa since the outbreak in China in January 2020.

This was contained in a statement released Friday morning by the state Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi.

Iran confirms first corona virus case

Iraq on Monday confirmed its first novel coronavirus infection in an Iranian national studying in the southern shrine city of Najaf, health officials said.
The country, whose healthcare system is run down, often hosts pilgrims and religious students from Iran, where 12 people have died since a coronavirus outbreak there was first reported last week.

Military Unveils Photographs Of Another 55 Wanted Boko Haram Terrorists

Maiduguri - The Military on Monday in Maiduguri unveiled the photographs of another 55 Boko Haram terrorists it had declared wanted, bringing the number of wanted terrorists so far to 257.
It had declared 202 insurgents wanted in two batches in 2015.
Unveiling the photographs at the headquarters of the Theater Command, the chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, called on Nigerians to join in search for the terrorists.
Olonisakin said that counter insurgency was field operation which required adequate awareness by the stakeholders.
"With this launch of additional photographs of wanted Boko Haram terrorists, it is hoped that all members of the public and other peace loving citizen will provide useful information that will aid in riding the society of these terrorists and criminal elements," he said

Obama Threatens Trump's Presidency

U.S president Barack Obama has said he may speak out after leaving office if he feels his successor Donald Trump is threatening core American values.
By convention, former presidents tend to leave the political fray and avoid commenting on their successors.
Speaking at a news conference at the Apec summit in Lima, Peru, Mr Obama said he intended to assist Mr Trump and give him time to outline his vision.
But he said that, as a private citizen, he might speak out on certain issues.
"I want to be respectful of the office and give the president-elect an opportunity to put forward his platform and his arguments without somebody popping off," Mr Obama said.
But, he added, if an issue "goes to core questions about our values and our ideals, and if I think it's necessary or helpful for me to defend those ideals, then I'II examine it when it comes".

Kidnapping: Plateau PDP Chieftain Appeals For Hirse's Release

Chief Alexander Mwolwus, a PDP chieftain in Plateau on Monday appealed to the Federal Government to facilitate the immediate release of the abducted ex-foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Bagudu Hirse.
Hirse, who was on a condolence visit to the family of Malam Mamman Daura in Kaduna, was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday morning.
The former minister's whereabouts has yet to be known by security operatives and family members, who confirmed his abduction, as no word was heard from him or his captors as at the time of filling this report.
Mwolwus, who spoke in an interview in Jos, described Hirse's abduction as "Very sad and unfortunate".
"I am appealing to the Federal Government to rise to the challenge and ensure that Hirse is released by his captors with immediate effect giving the fact that he is elderly man.

FG Says Economy Shrinks By 2.2% In Q3

Nigeria's economy contracted in the third quarter as businesses struggled to access foreign exchange and rebels continued to bomb oil pipelines in the restive south, official data showed Monday.
"The nation's gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by -2.24% year-on-year," the country's National Bureau of Statistics said.
