FEC Approves 215MW Power Plant For Kaduna

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday gave approval for the construction of a power plant in Kaduna which is expected to generate 215 megawatts of electricity.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, dropped the hints while State House Correspondents alongside his colleague in the Ministry of Information, Budget and National Planning at the end of the Federal Executive Council. FCE, meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja

The minister said the project, when completed would strengthen the national grid, adding that the project was awarded in 2009 to be completed in 2012 but was abandoned.

NUPENG Gives FG 21 Days To Halt Sack Of Workers By Oil Majors

Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas, NUPENG, yesterday gave the Federal Government, a 21-day ultimatum to order the recall of over 3,000 workers sacked by oil majors in the ongoing mass sack of workers in the sector or face a nationwide industrial action. A communique issued yesterday by the Central Working Committee, CWC, meeting in Warri, Delta State, lamented that the 3,000 workers were sacked by oil majors and oil servicing companies who were closing shop on account of the current recession.

Senate Gives NDDC 7 Days To Tender Evidence Of Approval On 1,691 Contracts

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts, yesterday, directed authorities of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to submit all approval evidences for 1,691 contracts it awarded within seven days for verification.

The order was sequel to the failure of the commission to provide evidence of approval for the 1,691 contracts out of the entire 1,697 contracts awarded by the commission to registered contractors between 2014 and 2016.

The committee, led by Senator Andy Uba, PDP, Anambra South, subsequently directed the commission to within seven days, furnish it with evidence of approval of all the contracts and relevant certificates of no objection from the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP.

Failure of the commission to provide evidence of approval for the documented contracts came to the fore during vetting of its report by the committee, yesterday.

Buhari Will Surprise Nigerians In 2017 - Trade Minister

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enalamah, yesterday, said the result of the efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will surprise Nigerians in 2017.

The minister, who was in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital spoke with newsmen at the 8th Session of the National Council On Industry, Trade and Investment.

Enalameh said the federal government is strifing to end the current economic recession.

He said: "You will start seeing result at the end of this year and early next year. As far as i am concerned, next year is a year of results. All the work we are doing will start yielding result from this quarter.

"The level of delivery in 2017 will surprise everybody. People may be saying we are not doing anything but it is impossible for a man to start broadcasting a plan we haven't really put together well."

The Minister however, stated that the strategic focus of the ministry's master plan for Diversification and Growth of the Nigerian Economy is: "Partnering with Private and Development Capital to leverage and Catalyze Resources for diversification and growth."

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, denied any plan to further hike price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, stating that current realities on ground didn't support any increase.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Mr. Muhammad Garba-Deen, said there was absolutely no plan by the Federal Government or the NNPC to increase fuel price above the N145 maximum level.

FG, World Bank To Develop Master Plan for Coastal Communities' Devt

The Federal Government and World Bank have entered a partnership arrangement aimed at developing a master plan for the development and protection of the coastal communities of the Niger Delta region.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, at a meeting with a delegation of the World Bank Group, led by Dahlia Lotayef, in Abuja, said the collaboration was expected to alleviate the sufferings of the people living in the coastal communities.

Pastor Usani said: "This visit is a fall out of the meeting on West Africa Coastal Areas Management Programme held in Lome, Togo, recently."

He reiterated that the ministry would look into deliberation at the summit with a view to finding ways of utilizing them to develop and enhance economic and social activities in the coastal areas of the Niger Delta region.
